How I read and organize my Star Wars comics
Plus: The next wave of Essential Legends and a special edition of "Temptation of the Force."
Thanks to comic books, there’s never a shortage of new Star Wars content every month — even every week. Comics also contain some of the best, galaxy-changing stories and art out there.
I’ve been reading Star Wars comics for a few years, mostly The High Republic ones. But I’m always, woefully, behind. One of my ongoing goals is to catch up and stay up to date with my comic pulls — and keep the issues protected and organized.
That’s why last weekend, I spent a good chunk of my Saturday sitting on the floor and plugged into an audiobook while I bagged and boarded a bunch of comics from the last several months. I’m proud of how the boxes turned out; my organization method made it much easier to find specific comics and series.
I used the basics — comic bags and boards and storage boxes — plus my HP Sprocket to print out mini photos of comic covers to stick on the plastic dividers. Take that, label makers!

Star Wars comic I’m reading, catching up on, and wanting to read
The High Republic main series, Adventures, Shadows of Starlight, and Saber for Hire — all part of The High Republic Phase 3, the final phase of storytelling. Like I said before, I’m behind on all of these, but catching up is on my to-do list this weekend.
Thrawn: Alliances — I was surprised to see this series only came out with four issues and reportedly doesn’t tell the entire story told in the novel. Still, I’m all for more Thrawn comic content. I haven’t read these yet, but I did collect several gorgeous variant covers of the first issue.
Knight Errant — I checked out the first two volumes of this Old Republic-era comic from the library last week, and I’m so excited to read Kerra Holt’s story. As someone trying to read more Legends, I’m endlessly fascinated by this era’s Sith Wars and how the galaxy was shaped by them and the Jedi.
Comics I want to read — Anything with Qi’ra, including Crimson Reign and Hidden Empire. I also want to finally read The Rise of Kylo Ren and the TIE Fighter series (hello, Alphabet Squadron prequel).
What other comics should I add to my TBR? And what Star Wars comics are you reading? Share them in the comments!
The next wave of Essential Legends
Remember back in February when I wrote about a bunch of Star Wars books (probably) coming soon? Well, Del Rey/Random House World finally made some of them official.
The next wave of the Essential Legends Collection arrives on June 4 with gorgeous new and reimagined cover art.
The Lando Calrissian Adventures by L. Neil Smith
501st: An Imperial Commando Novel by Karen Traviss
Iron Fist: Book 2 of The Wraith Squadron Series by Aaron Allston
RHW editor Tom recently shared why the cover for The Lando Calrissian Adventures is the classic “Mindharp” art — “1) it’s iconic. 2) That art was only available for a short window (about 10 years). Future trilogy covers really discounted/changed the art. What’s old is new again.”
What’s the next wave going to include? Based on my digging through the newest Barnes & Noble listings for Star Wars books, here’s what’s listed:
Solo Command (X-Wing) by Aaron Allston (Nov. 5)
The Han Solo Adventures by Brian Daley (Nov. 5)
The Force Unleashed by Sean Williams (Nov. 5)
This week’s Star Wars releases
May 15
The High Republic Adventures: Saber for Hire #2
Mace Windu #4
Temptation of the Force special edition
Attention lovers of signed books with pretty sprayed edges — Goldsboro will have a special edition of Temptation of the Force by Tessa Gratton.
The book will be signed, numbered, have gold sprayed edges, and be limited to 500 copies. Those like me who have ordered through Goldsboro previously can preorder a copy now through May 24. Check your emails for the password!
While you’re there, you can also still buy Goldsboro exclusive editions of Convergence and The Eye of Darkness.
Highly highly recommend the Vader 2017 run by Charles Soule. Absolutely incredible!
I really need to organise my comics like you! At the moment mine are all in folders but I prefer the boxes look. As well as what's already been said, all of Cavan Scott's Tales from... sort of books are always classic fun/horror Star Wars reads with stories from all over the timeline! The Star Wars/Vader series that started 2015 are both bangers too with some pretty important beats for the main characters, and introducing Aphra of course
