Tune in: May 4th livestream with Star Wars authors and giveaways
The Space Wizards Book Club X ThisDadReads Star Wars Day livestream features Tessa Gratton, Lydia Kang, and Chris Kempshall.
Star Wars Day livestream on Instagram
To celebrate Star Wars Day on Sunday, I’m teaming up with Jason at ThisDadReads to host a special May the 4th livestream on Instagram.
The show kicks off at 12 p.m. EST on Sunday and will last about an hour. We will be joined by three Star Wars authors throughout the livestream — Tessa Gratton, Chris Kempshall, and Lydia Kang. The chats will be casual and spoiler-free for books and shows, and we will welcome viewer questions in the comments.
On top of that, we have some very exciting prizes to give away from Disney, Box Lunch, Funko, Inkstone, and a few High Republic books. More details and rules below.
We’re both so excited about this event on Sunday, and we’d love to see people tune in — even if it’s just to pop in and say hi. Following, subscribing, sharing, and engaging directly helps us do more fun events and giveaways like this.
Where to find the livestream:
We hope to see you on May the 4th!
What we’re giving away
Thanks so much to Disney, Box Lunch, Funko, and Inkstone for providing these giveaway items. Copies of Tales of Light and Life and The Eye of Darkness are hardcover extras from my personal collection.
Prize pack 1: Tales of Light and Life B&N exclusive + Darth Vader Retro Pop + Disney Store May the 4th t-shirt size XL
Prize pack 2: The High Republic: The Eye of Darkness + Obi-Wan Kenobi Hello There Pop + Box Lunch Mando sweatshirt size L
Prize pack 3: Tales of Light and Life B&N exclusive + Box Lunch Vader Kimono denim jacket size L
Prize pack 4: Inkstone exclusive edition of The Acolyte: Wayseeker + Box Lunch dark side hoodie size L
Giveaway rules:
During the livestream, Jason and I will have trivia questions for each prize pack, and we will have the authors help us ask them. The first person to share the correct answer in a comment in the livestream will win a prize pack. Each prize pack will have a different question at a different time during the livestream. Tessa is set to help with prize pack 1, Chris will ask for prize pack 2, Lydia will handle prize pack 3, and Jason and I will wrap up with prize pack 4.
The winners will be notified during the livestream and via DM afterward. Prize pack items will arrive separately since Jason and I live on different sides of the country. The Inkstone book winner will have their prize shipped to them from the UK publisher.
Reading updates and what to expect in May
While it’s a really exciting weekend for Star Wars fans and nerds in general, I like to celebrate Star Wars all month long — let’s be honest, 365 days a year. There are several exciting new book releases this month, two titles to pick up on Free Comic Book Day, and, of course, more episodes of Andor.
I’ll post a record (probably) three Star Wars book reviews in May. First, next Tuesday, I’ll share my review of The Acolyte: Wayseeker. It’s really, really good, and it’s making me love and understand Vernestra Rwoh better. The same day A Valiant Vow comes out, but that review will come later next week. It’s the last middle-grade novel in The High Republic. Then in less than two weeks, we’ll finally get our hands on the script book for Tempest Breaker — the Lourna Dee-led audio drama by Cavan Scott. I should get a copy of the book from the publisher soon, so the review is planned for release day, May 13.
Beyond May, I’m eagerly, anxiously awaiting the arrival of an ARC of Trials of the Jedi — the sure-to-be epic High Republic finale. It should be any day now, I hope.
In the meantime, you can get a sneak peek of the book in my interview with Charles Soule in Star Wars Insider #231. Talking to him was truly an honor, even though he made me nervous about the end of The High Republic.
Also in this issue is my feature story about in-universe history books — featuring interviews with Kristin Baver, Chris Kempshall, Amy Richau, and Cole Horton. It was one of my favorite stories I’ve done yet, since I admire and look up to all of these authors.
Grab a copy of Star Wars Insider at retail bookstores, your local comic shop, and digitally through Libby.
