Star Wars Unlimited, new Inquisitors comic, Free Comic Book Day preview
I had never played a TCG before, but Star Wars Unlimited hooked me right away.
Hooked on Star Wars Unlimited
I’m not good at games — video, board, or trading card types. But when Star Wars Unlimited came out last month, I felt FOMO instantly.
At first, I wanted to just collect the cards. The art is gorgeous, and I am nothing if not a collector of pretty Star Wars things. But my brother-in-law kept talking about the game and how much he enjoyed it, so my husband and I decided to give it a go.
A few weeks ago we spent a few hours running the essential errands — visiting our local comic shop and card shops — and snagged a starter deck, a bunch of booster packs, two deck pods, and a couple of tournament packs.
That night we played our first game of Star Wars Unlimited, and it was incredibly fun. I’ve never played a TCG before, and I get easily frustrated with complicated game rules that make me feel dumb. But this game was easy to get started with, thanks in large part to the starter deck.
Star Wars Unlimited speaks to both of our interests. For me, I love the joy of the hunt for certain cards, collecting and organizing cards, and building themed decks (my current one is Rebels-themed). My husband is a gamer, so he enjoys the strategic aspects and building decks.
Star Wars Unlimited is also a fun new hobby we can do together. We’ve made Star Wars Unlimited Saturdays a thing now.
Have you played Star Wars Unlimited yet? What decks have you built, or want to build? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Inquisitors comic miniseries arrives in July
The Empire’s Jedi hunters are getting their own comic series. Star Wars: Inquisitors, a new miniseries by writer Rodney Barnes, arrives on July 3 from Marvel.
There are a few familiar Inquisitorial faces on the cover of issue #1 — Grand Inquisitor, Fifth Brother, Seventh Sister, and Ninth Sister. And behind them is the holo-shadow of Darth Vader, the Sith Lord who commands them.
In this series, the Inquisitors are hunting for Tensu Run, a Jedi survivor of Order 66 trying to rebuild the Order.

Free Comic Book Day preview
May the 4th — a.k.a. Star Wars Day — is also Free Comic Book Day. The holiday is self-explanatory: local comic shops hand out a bunch of free comics. It encourages reading and exploring new stories and is also a way to get people to patronize local businesses.
This year, there are two Star Wars comics available for FCBD — Star Wars and Young Jedi Adventures.
Summary for Star Wars, featuring a gorgeous cover with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker bisected by two lightsabers:
Are there REBEL survivors stranded on HOTH? LUKE SKYWALKER, LEIA ORGANA, LANDO CALRISSIAN and CHEWBACCA mount a dangerous rescue mission to ECHO BASE! Lightsabers! Blasters! Snowtroopers! All-out action amongst the wreckage of AT-AT walkers, Rebel airspeeders and frozen weapons of mass destruction!
DARTH VADER employes a surprise character from the past to help him find LUKE SKYWALKER. But SABE, former handmaiden of PADME AMADALA is also on a quest for the son of Vader. Having worked for him as an IMPERIAL COMANDER, Sabe has enough resources to cause chaos for anyone who stands in her path. How will this affect the DARK LORD'S plans to remove PALPATINE from power?
Summary for Young Jedi Adventures, which has The High Republic characters Padawan Qort and Youngling Nubs on the cover:
Journey to a galaxy far, far away with the younglings from the hit Disney+ streaming series Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, and guest-starring characters from the hit Dark Horse comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures in "Sky Parade Rescue!"
Then, in the Plants vs. Zombies short story "The Origin of Zomboss," a Brain-Z Entertainment film crew explores the many past jobs of Dr. Zomboss and what led to him forming the zombie army!
• Featuring two of Jedi Master Yoda's brightest students, Padawan Qort and Youngling Nubs!
• "The Origin of Zomboss!"-finally told!

I didn't need to know that SWU is fun. I used to play the Decipher Star Wars CCG back in the mid/late 90's, going to write about it soon. The last thing my free time or bank account needs is a new Star Wars game.
SWU is crazy popular where I’m at! The draft and constructed tournaments are always totally full at the game bar I play at and the booster packs are completely sold out everywhere in town. I love that the game mechanics are fairly simple and the art is so fun (except Han Solo looks ~off~ in all his cards lol). Can’t wait for the Shadows of the Galaxy set to drop in July!
