Breaking book news: 'The Living Force' by John Jackson Miller coming in 2024
Check out the gorgeous new cover and synopsis for the prequel book arriving on April 9, 2024.
Wake up, besties. A new Star Wars book was just announced.
On Thursday, Gizmodo revealed the cover and synopsis for The Living Force by John Jackson Miller — author of A New Dawn, Kenobi, and the Knights of the Old Republic Dark Horse comics.
The Living Force marks Miller’s first Star Wars book since 2013.
In a comment to Gizmodo/io9, Miller said he found himself “sympathizing with Qui-Gon Jinn, who felt they’d (the Jedi) lost their touch.”
The Living Force is set one year before the events of The Phantom Menace and includes perspectives of all 12 Jedi Councilors. That includes Masters Yoda, Mace Windu, Yaddle, Depa Billaba, Oppo Rancisic, Even Piell, Yareal Poo, Plo Koon, Eeth Koth, Saesee Tiin, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Adi Gallia.
Miller said there are disparities among the Councilors as to the future of the Jedi Order as well as how to deal with the lack of separation between “church and state” when it comes to the Jedi’s role within the Republic — a crumbling government plagued by corruption.
The result is a “road trip” for all of the Councilors at the suggestion of Qui-Gon Jinn, who’s famous for challenging the stoic Jedi Order’s stale rules and traditions.
And yes, Qui-Gonn’s Padawan learner Obi-Wan Kenobi appears in this book, too.

I wasn’t a huge fan of A New Dawn or Knight Errant but Kenobi was fantastic. I love the idea for The Living Force.
