Star Wars books and comics arriving in October
I like to think Star Wars saved some of the most exciting new books and comics of the year for my birthday month — October.
My top picks for this month include…
Battle of Jakku: Insurgency Rising: The new post-Return of the Jedi comic series begins with the Insurgency Rising story arc. Three issues come out in October, and the fourth and final issue arrives on Nov. 6. Then, Battle of Jakku continues with Republic Under Siege #1 on Nov. 20. This series follows the final days of the Galactic Civil War and the events leading up to the epic Battle of Jakku — depicted in the Aftermath and Alphabet Squadron trilogies. As a big fan of those books, I’m so excited about these new comics, and I hope we get some appearances by characters from the novels.
The Secrets of the Clone Troopers: The next in-universe history book finally arrives on Oct. 8. This one is all about the beloved Clones and is told from their perspectives. The interactive book explores the most famous, infamous, and obscure Clones from Captain Rex and Commander Cody to the 501st Legion and Clone Force 99. The Secrets of the Clone Troopers includes interactive pop-up features, booklets, and inserts as well as a pullout poster of the cover art.
Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss: It’s finally time for post-Phantom Menace stories to shine. There are so few stories in this time period, especially ones following the Jedi and Master Mace Windu. The Glass Abyss is about to remedy that with a moving story about the Jedi Master fulfilling one of Qui-Gon Jinn’s final wishes. The book comes from Steven Barnes, who wrote the Legends novel The Cestus Deception.

High Republic release date news
The theme of The High Republic Phase 3 — Trials of the Jedi — is also the name of the final adult book in the era. The cover art has yet to be revealed, but we finally have a release date for the era-ending book by Charles Soule: June 17, 2025.
Since The High Republic’s arrival in 2021, the books have mostly been published in this order — adult, middle-grade, and young adult. Light of the Jedi (adult) was followed by A Test of Courage (middle-grade) and then Into the Dark (young adult). According to the estimated release dates for the final three books in The High Republic, the publishing order is reversed. Claudia Gray’s Into the Light (YA) is expected on April 1, 2025, and Justina Ireland’s A Valiant Vow is estimated to be released on May 6, 2025.
Then, Soule will fittingly conclude The High Republic era with Trials of the Jedi in June.
I’m keeping a close eye on confirmed release dates, covers, and more details about the final books in The High Republic. Spring 2025 will be bittersweet for Star Wars readers, but I’m still so excited to see how it all ends.
For those of you wondering where the audiobook of Tears of the Nameless is, I have good news. The audiobook arrives on Oct. 15 and is narrated by Amber Lee Connors, who also voiced Quest for Planet X and Defy the Storm.
I haven’t found a listing on Audible yet, but Libro Fm (which supports indie bookstores) has a link to preorder the Tears of the Nameless audiobook.
ICYMI: The latest Star Wars book reviews
For the last several years, we’ve been spoiled with the number of new Star Wars books every year — a new release almost every month since 2021. But this week, we were treated to two brand-new Star Wars books within four days of each other.
The first was Padawan’s Pride, a surprise audio original release from Disney Books and author Bryan Q. Miller. The post-Phantom Menace middle-grade novel follows Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi on one of their earliest missions together as Padawan and Jedi master. It’s a fun, short, and surprisingly deep story about Anakin’s and Obi-Wan’s struggle to grasp their new reluctant roles and responsibilities.
Then on Tuesday, Tears of the Nameless finally arrived. The penultimate young adult book in The High Republic era proved to be a pivotal turning point for the Jedi’s knowledge of and fight against the Nameless Force-eating creatures. I rated this hauntingly beautiful and history-filled book by George Mann five stars.
