All the Star Wars book news from NYCC
The Lucasfilm Publishing panel revealed three exciting new comic series. Plus, you can soon own Stellan Gios' lightsaber.
Fans of The High Republic and Star Wars comics have even more reasons to be excited, thanks to several big announcements during Sunday’s Lucasfilm Publishing panel at New York Comic Con.
The panel kicked off with more details about what to expect next in The High Republic initiative and in Marvel’s Star Wars runs. Phase 3 of The High Republic recently launched with Shadows of Starlight #1 and continues with The High Republic #1 (Nov. 8), The Eye of Darkness (Nov. 14), and The High Republic Adventures #1 (Dec. 13).
During the panel, we got a sneak peek at the covers of Shadows of Starlight #4 and The High Republic #3. The former is written by Charles Soule with a cover featuring Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro holding the late Loden Greatstorm’s lightsaber.
The cover of Cavan Scott’s main run High Republic series shows Jedi Master Keeve Trennis fighting Nihil Tempest Runner (or is she?) Lourna Dee.
The High Republic #3 and Shadows of Starlight #4 both arrive in January.
While there weren’t any new novels announced, we did get a glimpse at three thrilling new comic series coming soon and the reveal of one beloved High Republic character’s collectible lightsaber.
Get your hands on Stellan Gios’ lightsaber
Our beloved High Republic Polestar’s lightsaber is one of the most beautiful and unique weapons in all of Star Wars. And soon, you can own it.
Stellan Gios’ lightsaber is the first High Republic laser sword to be available as part of Disney’s official line. The lightsaber is limited to 5,000 pieces and arrives this fall at shopDisney, Disneyland, and Walt Disney World.
Thrawn: Alliances comic
Remember in Ahsoka when Thrawn made *that* face when he learned Ahsoka was Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan? And then Star Wars book fans freaked out about the very subtle reference to the second book in the new Thrawn trilogy?
Well, the comic adaptation of Thrawn: Alliances arrives in January. Thrawn creator Timothy Zahn and comic writer Jody Houser pen this one.
The comic version of Thrawn (2017) by Timothy Zahn recently got a reprint, so it was only a matter of time before we got the next book in comic form. I am absolutely losing my mind over the fact that we’ll get to see other Chiss, their sky-walkers, and Thrawn and Anakin’s unlikely alliance.
Star Wars: Mace Windu drops in January
Just in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace, Jedi Master Mace Windu will get his own comic miniseries starting in January. The series is written by Marc Bernardin with the gorgeous first cover done by artist Mateus Manhanini.
Star Wars: Jango Fett arrives in March
While the panel shared that Bounty Hunters will soon end with issue #42, writer Ethan Sacks returns to write a new miniseries starring one of the greatest bounty hunters in the galaxy. Star Wars: Jango Fett debuts in March.
Star Wars Dad Jokes
Kelly Knox is widely known for her hilarious “dad jokes” and silly puns she shares on social media. So it’s so exciting to see her get a whole book dedicated to sharing the “best worst jokes and puns from a galaxy far, far away.”
Star Wars: Dad Jokes is coming soon from Chronicle Books.
Return of the Jedi: A Visual Archive releases in March
The 40th anniversary celebrations for Return of the Jedi aren’t stopping anytime soon. During the panel, a new visual guide was announced featuring writers Kelly Knox, Clayton Sandell, and S.T. Bende.
The gorgeous cover art is by Ise Ananphada.
Hyperspace Stories with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon
Dark Horse’s currently running Hyperspace Stories is expanding to a new line of graphic novels featuring Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Qui-Gon is written by George Mann and illustrated by Andrea Mutti. Obi-Wan is written by Cecil Castelucci and illustrated by Lucas Marangon. The covers are by Michael Cho.
Which reveal are you most excited about? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Ah there's so much to be excited for. Maybe as you said, seeing the events of Alliances in comics form will be amazing - I love that story and wonder how they'll alter the past and present back and forth. The dark horse graphic novels are also a massive win. Kelly's book will be hilarious too. And Ethan moving onto a Jango story, and a Mace Windu story... so many new prequel stories!
I’m just so ready for all the dad jokes! (And hoping so deeply to get my hands on stellan’s saber despite having just spent so much money at NYCC😅)
